Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject, preferably Management & Logistics related field.
  • Certification in logistics, accounting, or related fields is an added advantage.

Job Role:

We are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to join our team, responsible for fleet management, new business development, and process development in the logistics operation. The ideal candidate will handle revenue growth, day-to-day customer management, driver handling, and fleet management.

The role holder will be responsible for ensuring reports on revenue, cost, productivity, margins, and company process adherence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Logistics Revenue Growth:

  • Identify and develop logistics revenue growth by bringing in new contracts and desired margin.
  • Plan and manage internal logistics stakeholders and meet their logistics requirements.
  • Negotiate and secure contracts with external customers with high margin and service from logistics service providers at ideal rates.
  • Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives to optimize logistics operations.
  • Create and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial reports for logistics operations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting, including variance analysis and trend identification of growth and margin analysis.

2. Cost Control:

  • Monitor quality, quantity, delivery times, and transport costs.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify inefficiencies and cost optimization opportunities.
  • Ensure the integrity of inventory accuracy and manage fleet movements with the help of direct reports.

3. Process Development & Implementation:

  • Develop and contribute to the creation and implementation of best-practice logistics vision, strategy, policies, and processes to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Deliver solutions to logistics problems while maintaining high levels of quality and service within budgetary requirements.
  • Monitor quality, quantity, delivery times, and transport costs.
  • Recommend optimal transport modes, routes, or frequency.
  • Resolve problems concerning transportation, logistics systems, inbound and outbound, or customer issues.
  • Assess and make recommendations for logistics processes in potential new facilities or branches and advise of cost implications and efficiency.
  • Identify and resolve any inventory discrepancies and ensure inventory and system records are in agreement.
  • Interpret trends and analyze and review data. Provide meaningful logistics data to others in the organization to aid customer service and cost improvements.
  • Ensure IT systems in place are effective, maintained, and accurate.
  • Ensure metrics, reports, and process documentation are available.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with all connected with the logistics process.
  • Ensure products are transported appropriately to ensure the quality of goods during transportation.

4. Systems and Technology:

  • Able to understand and implement logistics software and systems, including Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).

5. Leadership and Communication:

  • Able to lead a team of drivers and logistics staff, train them, and communicate effectively.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, sales, and customer service.
  • Lead and mentor junior team members, as needed.
  • Anticipate potential issues and implement preventive measures by providing relevant information and support to the Head of Logistics, Senior Management, or the CEO to make decisions.
  • Collaborate with other team members to overcome obstacles and manage change effectively.
