Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe work practices and all incidents are reported and investigated according to procedure and on time.
  • Ensure Zero Fatality, Zero LTI and Zero MTI in the department and that incidents are reported timely.
  • Identify, notify and /or rectify all unsafe acts, situations, and hazards within the working places.
  • Conduct primary and secondary ventilation surveys (air flow quantity & quality), prepare reports and communicate the findings to stakeholders.
  • Conduct dust monitoring, noise and fan pressure surveys and measurement of DPM (Diesel emissions)
  • Updating, printing, and posting in the appropriate location mine ventilation and rescue plans (at least every 3 months)
  • Identify new fan installation locations and update BGML fan register.
  • Ensure fans from mined out areas are serviced before moving to another location.
  • Conduct routine inspection of undeground Refuge Chambers and update the status.
  • Follow up on underground gas monitoring instruments performance and calibration. 
  • Tracking on monthly basis mine ventilation duct usage by section (inventory)
  • Prepare ventilation field instructions and follow up for implementation.
  • Provide ventilation inputs in mine plans and stope note.
  • Follow up with mining construction, operation, electrical and engineering teams on ventilation related tasks.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as you may be required by Technical Services Department from time to time

 

Qualification Requirements:

  • Diploma in mining engineering or equivalent
  • A Valid Tanzania Driving License

 

Experience and Skills Requirements:

  • Understanding of underground mine environment and be able to work underground for extended period of time.
  • Familiar with basic mine ventilation concepts 
  • Good verbal communication (English and Swahili)
  • Ability to use Microsoft  Office package, and able to learn mine softwares like Deswik CAD, VentSim etc.
  •  Ability to use ventilation measuring instruments, like anemometers, whirling hygrometer etc.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives without supervision 
  • MUST possess a valid Tanzania driving licence and be able to drive light vehicle underground
  • Underground working experience, preferably in ventilation      will be an added advantage
