Jhpiego, implementing a number of projects in Tanzania, wishes to recruit the following positions, available for immediate filling.
Position: Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision Nurse Provider [Two positions oversees Morogoro, Singida, Njombe, Tabora and Iringa
Jhpiego has been supporting Tanzania’s Ministry of Health (MOH) in the scale up of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) services in a prevention effort to reduce HIV transmission since Jhpiego through the AIDSFree project, in support of and in collaboration with the MOHCDGEC, provides VMMC implementation, training and technical assistance in Tanzania-lringa, Njombe, Tabora, Singida and Morogoro. The VMMC Nurse Provider will work closely with a team of providers working on the Jhpiego Sauti project to provide services in a mobile unit including services for HIV prevention including HIV testing services. The VMMC provider will work alongside the Sauti biomedical team bringing on site VMMC service provision to adolescents and men but remain under the responsibility of the AIDSFree VMMC technical team and will responsible for the provision of VMMC services at allocated Sauti sites.
Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for providing skilled circumcision services to the eligible persons in Tanzania in the mobile unit. The position will also entail frequent travel to support outreach and intensified service delivery in various Sauti project supported sites. There will be close collaboration with the AIDSFree program and Sauti Project
- Supervise booking of clients for VMMC to ensure correct registration and efficient patient flow
- Offer a package of predefined “VIP” services to men aged 25-29 year old to meet their needs to accept VMMC services
- In the absence of the VMMC Counselor, provide both individual and group pre and post-operative counseling for HIV testing, and answer client questions regarding the VMMC procedure
- Prepare the VMMC procedure room to ensure that all necessary equipment and materials are available for use by the team.
- Ensure clients privacy during the procedure
- Ensure safety for all personnel and clients in the procedure /operating room.
- Damp dusting
- Adherence to three bin system for infection control
- Decontaminate and cleaning of instruments
- Assist during the VMMC procedure, and participate in the identified task sharing roles that constitute the MOVE model, such as suturing.
- Together with the team, ensure high quality VMMC services are offered and maintained.
- Adhere to national guidelines and SOPs
- Ensure VMMC tools are filled properly at all times for quality data management
- Ensure that moderate and severe AES are reported and documented
- Ensure availability of emergency equipment in theatre
- Ensure medication and supplies inventory system in use
- Monitor the client’s condition following the VMMC procedure
- Provide post-operative counseling on risk reduction
- Follow up the client for wound management and adverse event monitoring on days 2 and 7
- Liaise appropriately with the team Medical Officer in client management
Other responsibilities
- Assist in data compilation of weekly/monthly reporting to Data Clerks/Officers and M&E Officer or others, as advised by the supervisor.
- Ensures patient information is accurately recorded at sites; and treated with confidentiality
- Take part in preparation of schedules for VMMC services in conjunction with the Sauti Project
- Works with the health facility/site team to assess the required supplies for conducting VMMC at Sauti sites and prepares timely procurement requests as may be required;
- Perform required cleaning and maintenance of mobile unit as per manufacturer’s specifications and program needs.
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by immediate supervisor,
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Diploma in Nursing required (Degree preferred)
- Valid registration with the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council
- Minimum of 4 years relevant experience
- Experience in HIV counseling
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, organizational and communication skills, with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively in a demanding environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Computer Skills, including MS Office Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Willingness to travel frequently to various areas in Tanzania
