Bank of India is a prestigious public sector bank with a rich history of 118 years, boasting an extensive network of over 5,200 branches across India and 60 international branches/offices in key global centers. Bank of India (Tanzania) Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary, is actively seeking dynamic, experienced, and dedicated Tanzanian professionals to join our team for the following critical role:

General Manager

Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Attributes:

  • A Master's degree and/or Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Accountancy, Banking, Finance, Business Administration and Management, or Risk and Compliance.
  • Candidates possessing an additional qualification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) will be highly regarded.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in a commercial banking environment, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated expertise and a solid understanding of bank credit and lending portfolio management.
  • In-depth knowledge of credit risk assessment methodologies and effective mitigation strategies.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and leadership capabilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of banking regulations and business operations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical abilities and proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Proven ability to influence and mobilize customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the comprehensive business operations and management functions of the bank.
  • Report directly to the Managing Director/Board of Directors.
  • Assume overall responsibility for various bank departments, including Credit, Risk and Compliance, Human Resources, and all bank branches.
  • Annually review and update bank policies for submission to the Board/Regulator for approval, as mandated.
  • Develop and implement robust risk mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze diverse risk scenarios and prepare essential agendas for the Board and its committees.
  • Serve as the Convener of the Executive Committee (EXCO).
  • Maintain regular communication and liaison with statutory authorities, including the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), other local banks, the Bank of Tanzania (BOT), and corporate clients on banking business matters.
  • Ensure strict adherence to BOT regulations and guidelines, as well as internal bank policies.
  • Manage relationships with bank vendors.
  • Actively canvass for new business opportunities for the bank.
