Bank of India (Tanzania) Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary, is actively seeking dynamic, experienced, and dedicated Tanzanian professionals to join our team for the following critical role:
General Manager
Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Attributes:
- A Master's degree and/or Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Accountancy, Banking, Finance, Business Administration and Management, or Risk and Compliance.
- Candidates possessing an additional qualification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) will be highly regarded.
- A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in a commercial banking environment, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership capacity.
- Demonstrated expertise and a solid understanding of bank credit and lending portfolio management.
- In-depth knowledge of credit risk assessment methodologies and effective mitigation strategies.
- Exceptional strategic thinking and leadership capabilities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of banking regulations and business operations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong analytical abilities and proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Excel.
- Proven ability to influence and mobilize customers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the comprehensive business operations and management functions of the bank.
- Report directly to the Managing Director/Board of Directors.
- Assume overall responsibility for various bank departments, including Credit, Risk and Compliance, Human Resources, and all bank branches.
- Annually review and update bank policies for submission to the Board/Regulator for approval, as mandated.
- Develop and implement robust risk mitigation strategies.
- Analyze diverse risk scenarios and prepare essential agendas for the Board and its committees.
- Serve as the Convener of the Executive Committee (EXCO).
- Maintain regular communication and liaison with statutory authorities, including the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), other local banks, the Bank of Tanzania (BOT), and corporate clients on banking business matters.
- Ensure strict adherence to BOT regulations and guidelines, as well as internal bank policies.
- Manage relationships with bank vendors.
- Actively canvass for new business opportunities for the bank.
