One Acre Fund is an agricultural NGO in Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania that is innovating a new way of helping farm families to achieve their full potential. One Acre Fund invests in farmers to generate a permanent gain in farm income. We provide farmers with a "market bundle" that includes education, finance, seed and fertilizer, and market access. Our program is proven impactful – every year, we weigh thousands of harvests and measure more than 100% average gain in farm income per acre. In 4 years we have grown to serve more than 38,000 farmer families in Tanzania. We hope to serve >100,000 farmers in Tanzania by 2020.

Job Title: Product Innovations Phase 2 Coordinator

The Director will work closely with Product Innovations (PI) leadership on design, planning, and execution and of trial products in the
“Phase 2” stage. These trials aim to assess impact potential of agricultural and non-agricultural products at select sites and
agro-ecological zones in Tanzania. Phase 2 trials determine whether the impact potential of a product is rigorous enough to move
the product for sale at a district level, and eventually, the products can be offered to nearly 40,000 smallholder farmers. This role is
crucial in ensuring that the most impactful products reach all of our farmers at scale.
The position requires at least 25% time observing and supervising field activities with the remaining time spent planning,
calendaring, coordinating with other departments, creating materials, and managing a large team of field facing staff. This position
will also be responsible for the professional development of staff in a growing team. The selected candidate will work with
leadership to prepare and plan trials, conduct targeted field follow up, and provide actionable recommendations based on analysis
to drive organizational decision-making and product offerings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead “Phase 2” adoption and logistics trial design, planning, and execution:
    o Select sites for trials with support from Program Associate and Program Manager
    o Design and finalize farmer training and staff talking points for trial products
    o Design data collection plan and key performance indicators based on trial objectives
    o Recommend staffing needs for trials
    o Calendaring of activities, deadlines, and decision points for trials
    o Conduct excel analysis of trial enrollment and produce well-written analysis reports
    o Effective delegation of tasks and communication with direct reports
    o Sets and executes short-term (0-6 months) goals for team and trials
  • Supervise and manage execution of “Phase 2” trials in the field, including
    o Track progress of trial enrollment and execution
    o Troubleshoot challenges in trial enrollment and execution
    o Manage and update trial management spreadsheets
    o Conduct 1-2 site visits per week
    o Oversee weekly training for Trial Facilitators
    o Liaise independently with external departments within One Acre Fund on Phase 2 needs
  • Management of team
    o Hire & manage (in-person and remotely) Trial Managers and Trial Facilitators
    o Set Trial Facilitator KPIs, receive KPI reports from Managers, and input KPIs
    o Weekly check-ins with staff, supporting them on task prioritization and planning
    o Developing professional development plans and facilitate performance reviews

Necessary Qualifications:

  • graduate of a 4-year university (mandatory)
  • Personal or professional experience with agronomy and rural livelihoods (mandatory)
  • 2-5 years practical experience working on project management, including preferred experience with:
    o Managing project calendars
    o Writing training for field-based staff
    o Drafting surveys for field data collection
    o Data analysis leading to specific recommendations
    o Fluency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Google Sheets, and Google Docs
  • Comfort and sensitivity working in a multicultural environment that spans six countries and two continents
  • Proven ability to teach/mentor others
  • Excellent ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Integrity in use of One Acre Fund resources
  • Open to feedback, willing to admit mistakes and learn from them
  • Fluent Business and Conversational English
  • Ability to live and work in Iringa, Mbeya and/or other regions
